Cottbuser Ostsee Management

PLANNING AND COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT FOR Post Mining Development

The aim of the Cottbuser Ostsee Management project was to provide the city of Cottbus and the urban societies with technical support in the planning of the ‘Cottbuser Ostsee’ project. The implementation took place in cooperation with AECOM Germany. The Ostsee management includes the development of the concept for the ‘Seeachse’ and ‘Seevorstadt’, preparations for the BUGA 2033, the support of the ‘Hafenquartier’ (harbor quarter) competition as well as communications and marketing works for the project. In the coming years of structural change in Lusatia, the former ‘Cottbus Nord’ opencast mine will become the ‘Cottbuser Ostsee’. Complex planning measures are required in order to identify the lake as a development potential for the city of Cottbus and the neighboring communities, to design the coal phase-out and to use it as a potential for urban redevelopment.
