The existing combination of local Cottbus based power station and the long-distance heating grid were important components of the heating supply in the city since the 1990s. The infrastructures serve urban retail and housing functions at the same time. Now the entire industrial complex will get a profound update until 2022 (source: Stadtwerke Cottbus GmbH). The effects of this modernization do not only require technological changes. The transformation of the power station will also change the city landscape. This is why the public services of Cottbus commissioned INIK to analyze the outcomes of the power station upgrade.
