Within the framework of the project “Energy in the City” the Ministry of Building of the State of Brandenburg aimed 2009 at improving urban development politics in the context of ecology and energy resources by new interdisciplinary approaches in the field of urban panning, technology, “Baukultur”, building economy and user sensitivity. The projects objective was directly related to new EU and federal regulations and energy strategies. Within this strategic idea INIKs task was to investigate in heterogeneous and historic urban structures of different cities in the State of Brandenburg. The three selected urban quarters of the project were located in the Cities of Cottbus (Ostrower Platz), Finsterwalde (historic center and “westliche Vorstadt” and Neuruppin (historic center). Within that context the Institute of New Industrial Culture aimed at developing methodologies and planning instruments to improve the current ecological conditions.
