The Bridge Lübbenau
Urban renewal in the Railway station-quarter
90

Over the past years Lübbenau, a city in Spreewald, has lost about one quarter of its inhabitants as a result of the migration process. This occurred particularly in the quarters built from prefabricated slabs in the South, which are separated from the city through the railway line and the federal road. Thanks to development of tourism and small trade the districts nearby Spreewald remained stable. As the reaction on the current demographic and structural situation two local housing companies and the Municipality of Lübbenau has established „Lübbenaubrücke“ as cooperation project. The Institute of New Industrial Culture carried out detailed researches on the barrier caused by the railway line and the federal road. The main focus of the research was to elaborate the urban strategies for the future development of railway station quarter.
