Re-use of historic industrial structure in Eberswalde
10

The project aimed at setting up a re-use strategy for the Borsighalle in the City of Eberswalde 50 km East of Berlin. The buildings history started in Berlins’ district of Moabit were the structure was firstly erected in 1849. By the end of the 19th Century the Borsighalle was detached and later re-erected in Eberswalde. The INIK re-use project includes aspects of preservation planning, building economy and building technology at the same time. The idea was to develop a step-by-step concept that allows a sustainable use of the historic fabric. The Borsighalle is one of the singular architectural testimonies of the industrial revolution in the State of Brandenburg. Among experts the building is globally well known due to its prefabricated grid structure and the prototype character. The intention of the INIK-project was to prepare an application for acceptance of Borsighalle as a „Nationally invaluable cultural Monument“ („National wertvolle Kulturdenkmäler“; federal program).
