Knappenrode Workshops
Participation and neighborhood development
-1

Since the end of the former briquetting plant in 1993 the site of Energy Factory Knappenrode has become one of the most prominent tourist destinations of industrial heritage in the Saxonian and Brandenburg part of Lusatia region. Now the progress of urban development brings up new questions that refer to the connection between the former industrial plant in the South and the workers settlement in the North. The reactivation of the link among the housing units and the Energy Factory presents a rather complex problem of urban planning and design. Thus the participation of the local people including the official community representatives is a key factor of the development process. The participation of “project measure citizen involvement” is part of the “national projects of urban design” in Hoyerswerda.
