The aim of the project was to investigate and help preserve monuments and important buildings of GDR Postwar Modernism in Eastern Germany. In the coming years particularly fabrics of the 1960 and 1970s deserve more attention and architectural care when it comes to repair measurements. Within this context INIK ihad studied about 20 buildings all over Eastern Germany. Several specialists in preservation, architectural history and architecture were taking part in the project „Denkmalschutz und Denkmalpflege der Ostmoderne - Eine Zwischenbilanz zum Umgang mit der Architektur aus der DDR der Jahre 1960 bis 1980“. Co-initiator and supervisor was the Wüstenrot Foundation. Part of the project was to discuss building upgrades to improve energy efficiency in the framework of preservation planning and design.
