The history and future development of the cities at the Polish-German borderland are the focus of the research project Borderland. During the numerous workshops that took place in a couple of locations - Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice, Guben and Gubin, Görlitz and Zgorzelec - diverse developmental strategies and design ideas for the future in the border towns were elaborated.
Some model solutions for the arrangement of free spaces, new buildings and modification of existing architecture, based on specific places/buildings, were presented. Participants discussed proposed solutions with the local community members.
Besides the planning and design process, the project is also aiming to create a structure for trans-boundary cooperation; therefore involvement of the students from Polish and German universities in this project was vital.
