INIK Strategy:
The goal of the strategy "A Manufacturer’s Villa as an Impetus for Renovation" is the preservation and step-by-step appreciation of the unique inventory of timber buildings in the town of Niesky. The departure point of this strategy is the villa of the head of the timber building company Christoph & Unmack, a jewel of Weimar architectural Modernism built by the renowned architect Konrad Wachsmann. The goal is to exemplary renovate the house and to compliment it by the visitor and competence-center "Konrad-Wachsmann-Haus" in the immediate vicinity.
Background:
The residence is situated at the northwestern edge of the town of Niesky in Saxony. The town is the owner of the residence and the 4,500-square meter plot partially covered by woods. Since 1995, the building has been listed in the registry of protected monuments and to this day largely has been preserved in original condition. It stands out through its high architectural quality as a wooden structure of Weimar Modernism. The former residence is well-known among international experts an is considered a rare example of modern architecture in east Germany.
