A Model House as Encouragement
I.02

INIK Strategy:
The goal of the strategy is the preservationist appreciation of the architecturally unique housing project Ołtaszyn (built in 1922 by Ernst May)—preserved in its entirety—at the southern edge of Wrocław. The intention is that the impetus for renovation will originate entirely with the inhabitants in the sense of a bottom-up strategy. Their participation will provide the basis of the approach.

Background:
The apartment buildings of the housing project Ołtaszyn are generally in very good condition. However, during recent years interventions occurred that have considerably affected the design of the historic building fabric. Continuation of this process can be expected and would substantially endanger the quality of the housing project. Today, the inhabitants of the apartments are also the owners. The community of the project appears to be very stable. The existence of neighborhoods and the identification of the inhabitants with the entire project are noticeable.
When the housing project was built during the 1920s, the inhabitants of Ołtaszyn participated as partners in construction and in financing measures. The goal is to transfer these experiences while considering present market conditions. The strategy “A Model House as Encouragement” relies fully on the involvement and active participation of the owners of the houses.
