INIK Strategy:
The INIK strategy will put an end to continuing demolition in the city. The goal is to achieve this through an economically feasible change of use of the Adolf Hellwig Textile Factory near the centre of town.
Background:
After years of vacancy, the Adolf Hellwig Textile Factory was about to be demolished. At the same time commercial interest was investing in Forst. The demolition of the factory was halted after the inhabitants of the neighbouring property intervened. Out of this situation pressure arises to find a new user. However, intensive efforts to find a private investor with sufficient capital have so far been in vain.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Forst was an important site for the textile industry.
After German reunification, textile companies quickly declined. The many factories throughout the entire city still shape the look of the town. Nevertheless, because of continuing vacancy the buildings are falling into increasing disrepair.
Forst—once a Manchester of the east—is threatened by the loss of an important, unique characteristic.
